Home Again

we made it back from the east coast just fine … it was quite warm and stormy out there …

i had a great time visiting tesh’s sister and brother-in-law … they were very gracious hosts …

we spent equal time relaxing and touring … there is a really old graveyard right near their house in manchester, ct … and because i love graveyards and old things, it was perfect …

i was astounded by the number of graves from the late 1700’s and early 1800’s …

this particular grave marker is so old that the tree grew into and around it …

very cool cemetery, i would definitely go back and spend time photographing it again …

we took a train into new york city’s grand central station, which really is THAT busy … a great place to people watch … and take pictures …

i must return at some point … one day is no where near enough time in new york city …

we went to the metropolitan museum of art … we only had time to see a little of it, so we focused our art appreciation (cause art can’t appreciate itself, you know) on the galleries for 19th- and early 20th-century european paintings, of which my favorite type of art, impressionism is a part of …

apparently this is also known as modern art … who knew, certainly not me …

3 hours at the met was nowhere near enough … but it left room for a return visit …

after leaving the met we were treated to a torrential downpour … so we cabbed it over to the west side of the island with the intention of taking a harbor lights evening cruise that had been recommended to me by a friend … it poured hard for a little while and then it broke and started to clear up just in time for our cruise … this cruise was tesh’s and my favorite part of the trip (tesh says to add here, “except for seeing katya & jerry!”)…

great views of lower manhattan were seen:

finally got to see the statue of liberty in person … during sunset no less … very beautiful and awe inspiring …

sunday we went to see old new-gate prison … a copper mine/prison from the 1700’s … again it was a hot day with interspersed showers … the prison is in a preserved state of decay … most buildings had fallen down and only bits and pieces remained …

the mine itself was a constant 52 degrees, a welcome respite to the heat of the day …

unfortunately, our time with jerry and katya ended and we had to return to the reality we left behind …

we are definitely going to have to go back again … so much more to see/do …

all of the pictures from the trip can be seen here:
